Aloha Hui Members! With our summer season having come to a close, we want to extend a mahalo to all of those who participated in all of our summer activities and to all of those we got to join! This summer was filled with abundance: in people, in harvest, and in activities. ʻAukake brought us an opportunity to reflect on this abundance and slow down to focus on our in-house work. During this period of recovery, we were still able to provide for our community by distributing our kalo harvest. Now, as we look forward to the next season we are excited to be hosting some fun educational events. We hope you stick around to learn about what we have going on! Mahalo nui loa for being a part of our Hui and for your continued support and involvement! |

Kosasa CBES Gathering
7 ʻAukake 2024
On 7 ʻAukake 2024, the Hui was honored to be welcomed to the Kosasa Foundation CBES Gathering that took place at the University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu Academy of Creative Media. During this event, we gathered alongside other community partners, place/culture-based practitioners, academic/scientific community members and organizations, and government agencies and individuals.
This event was filled with an abundance of knowledge, allowing us to learn about how others in Hawaiʻi affect and track place-based environmental improvements, create meaningful collaboration, and engage the community to be aware, understand, and take action to address critical environmental concerns. This event provided us the opportunity to connect with others who share a similar vision and learn about their organizations, the steps they take to overcome barriers, and how they're moving forward in the future.
We were also able to experience the University of Hawaiʻi's West Oʻahu Academy of Creative Media Indigenous Data Visualization Hub. This Hub incorporates the Create(X) laboratory that exemplifies the intersection of creative media, computation, culture, art, and science. Utilizing Hawaiian language and landscapes their work is taking the next step to showcase how data can be viewed and utilized.
Overall, this was a wonderful opportunity and we are thankful for the Kosasa Foundation for inviting us to gather and share among other community leaders.
ʻAukake Spotlight
A Special Mahalo To the Hōkūleʻa Crew During their journey, the Hōkūleʻa arrived in Hanalei on 17 ʻAukake 2024. While they stayed on the north shore of Kauaʻi, the Hui provided kalo and uala for their arrival. We are thankful to have provided for such amazing people while they take on this journey. |
